Neil Sanders joined Dr JH Burgoyne and Partners in 1997, having obtained BSc and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering and having worked in the speciality chemical and beverage industries for a total of 8 years. He became a Principal Member (Partner) of Burgoynes in 2001.
Since joining the Partnership he has investigated more than 700 incidents, mostly involving fire and explosion on land and on ships, but also electrical faults, marine cargo problems, water damage, process engineering, food manufacture, mechanical failure, product failure and product contamination.
His work with Burgoynes has included conducting detailed investigations, preparation of reports, providing advice to Counsel and presentation of expert testimony in Court in the UK and overseas.
He is based in Burgoynes’ London office and has previously worked in the Singapore office (2001-2003). He has undertaken investigations in Europe, North America, South America, Africa and Asia.
He has investigated fires or explosions in container ships, bulk carriers, tankers, passenger ships, car carriers, survey vessels, pipelayers and yachts. The types of marine incidents that he has investigated include fires in cargo, engine rooms and accommodation, explosions in cargo areas, and fires in shipyards. He has also given advice on live marine incidents, and conducted investigations and given advice on cargo problems, cargo contamination and chemical hazards, including DRI and bulk foodstuffs.
He has lectured to various Insurance organisations on fire investigation.
