Roy Kemsley, who joined Burgoynes in 1991, obtained his BTech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology. He is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. He undertakes investigations into a wide range of incidents involving mechanical and structural failures, accidents resulting in personal injuries and explosions related to equipment and processes. He also undertakes work associated with product liability and product defect issues. Roy is often instructed as a single joint expert and has also acted as an expert in Health and Safety related prosecution cases.
Major cases that Roy has investigated include gas explosions related to the mechanical failures of rotating equipment and major fires associated with the operation of thermal fluid heating plant. He has devised and conducted tests to confirm the strength and stability of ladders. He has also undertaken investigations relating to the collapse of lifting equipment and warehouse storage racking.
After graduating Roy spent 6 years with a petro-chemical contractor and 5 years with a firm of Forensic Consulting Engineers.
