Peter Jowett designed and developed specialized electrical machines and became a project manager in the aerospace defence industry. He joined Dr J H Burgoyne and Partners LLP as an Associate in 1990 and became a Principal Member in 1998. Since 1990 he has been continuously engaged in the investigation of fires, explosions, incidents of electrical failure and personal injury. He has undertaken over 1000 investigations and has been required to attend court to give expert testimony in the UK and overseas. He is based in the firm’s Ilkley office and has undertaken investigations in several countries in Europe, the Middle East, Indonesia and China.
Engineering investigations have included the failure of electrical equipment in aircraft, ships, power stations, sub-stations, farms, industrial, commercial and domestic premises. Several types of equipment have been considered in detail ranging from induction motors, dc motors, ac drive circuits and switchgear.
Peter Jowett has given lectures on several aspects of electrical machine design at International Conferences in the UK, North America and Germany and published papers on electrical machine design and control. He has lectured in a number of venues and to a range of audiences on fire investigation and electrical failures, including at Leeds, Manchester and Edinburgh Universities and at many technical seminars for the Chartered Insurance Institute and others.
