Tom Parry joined Dr J H Burgoyne and Partners as an Associate in 1994 and became a Senior Associate in 1999. He became a Principal Member of Dr J H Burgoyne and Partners LLP in 2001. Tom Parry was one of the first specialists to be recruited to work outside of the firm’s well established area of the investigation of fires and explosions, building on his previous experience in the investigation of the causes of materials and engineering related failures. Tom has travelled extensively to investigate land based and marine incidents in the UK, USA, Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Australia. He has given expert evidence in civil courts, arbitrations and mediations, both in the UK and overseas (USA, Singapore and Taiwan).
On land his work involves the investigation of materials and engineering related failures of almost any type of component of any size that has been made from metals, plastics ceramics or composite materials.
His work in the marine area has now grown to include a total of over thirty vessels and this work is of course principally metallurgical in nature. He has been involved in the investigation of the cause of a variety of problems involving corrosion in cargo holds and damage to items of hull and machinery, including main engine components such as bedplates and crankshafts.
