Mark undertook a four year apprenticeship as an electrical engineer with the ministry of defence. During the apprenticeship Mark completed an ONC and HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Upon completing the apprenticeship and gaining the HNC mark moved into the design field and became responsible for the design and integration of electrical equipment for Royal Naval surface ships and submarines (both nuclear and conventional) and the support facilities required to support nuclear vessels whilst in refit. Whilst continuing to work in the Naval Defence industry, Mark obtained his degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Plymouth.
After obtaining his degree Mark spent approximately 18 months with a defence company based in Bath where he provided consultancy support and design support to customers for naval projects before gaining chartered status in 2002.
Mark then joined Burgoynes in 2002, where he has investigated over several hundred incidents involving comprising fires, explosions and electrical failures and he specialises in fire of electrical origin.
