Pat graduated in Natural Sciences, specialising in Chemistry, from the University of Cambridge in 1982. She then undertook research in organic photochemistry at the Open University for which she received a PhD in 1985.

Pat worked for 22 years in various branches of The Forensic Science Service Ltd where she acquired experience in several areas of forensic science including flammable liquid analysis, assessment of clothing for singeing damage, footwear marks, paint, glass and blood alcohol analysis.  Between 1997 and 2008  Pat worked at the Fire Investigation Unit of the FSS London laboratory.  Pat has conducted detailed investigations into over 500 incidents involving fire and explosion, mainly for the Police, including fatal fires. 

Pat joined Burgoynes in 2008 as an Associate and undertakes investigations into the causes of fires and explosions.  Pat has given evidence in Crown, Magistrates and Coroners’ Courts on many occasions.
