Experience:

Paul joined Burgoynes in 1997 and became a Partner in 2006. Since 1997, he has undertaken over 800 investigations of fires, explosions and related incidents,  such as carbon monoxide poisonings. During this period he has provided expert testimony in arbitrations, in addition to civil, criminal and Coroner’s courts. He has undertaken investigations in Europe and South Africa.

His principal areas of work are the investigation of fires, explosions and chemistry related incidents, such as cargo contamination and problems arising from the use and application of chemical products.

He has applied knowledge gained during study for his PhD in the area of combustion research to the investigation of incidents of fires and explosions occurring in a range of premises, from domestic to large industrial, and also plant and equipment, including both road-going, off-road and rail vehicles.

Paul's first degree in analytical chemistry has enabled him to conduct investigations into off-specification bulk products and contaminated products. The latter includes contamination introduced during shipping of products, both in tanker ships and container ships. Investigations into problems arising from the use and application of chemical products include disputes relating to fertilisers and herbicide products used in the agricultural industry, and the use of paint products.

Paul Jowett has lectured on the subject of fire investigation to Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Services, in addition to Insurance Industry audiences.
