Experience:

Rob was awarded a BEng in Metallurgical Engineering from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1989.  Rob has since attained Chartered Engineer and Chartered Scientist status from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.

Rob’s early experience was gained in the mining industries in Australia and then as a materials engineer in East Anglia involved with the oil, gas, marine and nuclear industries.  Rob returned to Australia in the 1990s where he provided a forensic engineering service to industry and gave expert testimony in courts.  Rob returned to UK in 1999 as manager of a materials testing laboratory providing assessments of metals and composites and failure investigations to all industries, particularly aerospace.

Rob joined Burgoynes in 2001 as an associate and became a Partner in 2010.  Since 2001 Rob has carried out over 400 forensic investigations of a mechanical nature and has provided expert evidence in court, arbitration and mediations in the UK and Europe.  Incidents investigated have included collapse of buildings and cranes, failures of railway, automotive and marine components and the failures of industrial plant, lifting equipment, domestic and industrial plumbing installations and general engineering components (plastics, ceramics and metals).  Rob has specialist expertise in non-destructive testing techniques (NDT) and has carried out numerous Health & Safety investigations, such a slips and trips, and falls from height.
