He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Member of the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry and an Associate of the Institution of Fire Engineers. He joined Burgoynes in 2005 and, after many years in the Stevenage office, transferred to the Singapore office in 2013.
Darren has investigated over 600 fires, explosions and chemical incidents across the UK, Europe, Africa, Asia and South East Asia. These include incidents involving light and heavy industry, commercial properties, residential properties, airports, shipyards, forest fires, vehicles comprising cars, trucks, buses, agricultural machinery and heavy plant, and seagoing vessels such as service boats, vehicle transporters, bulk and general cargo. Darren has also investigated marine incidents involving the contamination of refined petroleum products, bulk commodity chemicals and sulphur cargoes. In addition, he has devised, directed and overseen analyses undertaken during the investigation of these and other cases involving chemicals. He has provided advice concerning the extinguishment of live fires aboard vessels involving agricultural products and leaking dangerous goods.

He has acted as a Single Joint Expert and has given evidence at arbitrations. He has also given lectures to insurance and loss adjusting professionals on various fire investigation and chemical topics.
