Experience:
During and after obtaining his BSc and PhD degrees, Neil worked in the speciality chemical and beverage industries for 8 years. He joined Burgoynes in 1997 and became a Partner in 2001. He is based in Burgoynes’ London office and has previously worked in the Singapore office (2001-2003).
Since joining the partnership, he has investigated more than 1200 incidents involving fires and explosions on land and on ships, water escapes, electrical faults, marine cargo problems, process engineering, food manufacture, mechanical failure, product failure and contamination. He has conducted investigations on container ships, bulk carriers, tankers, passenger ships, car carriers, survey vessels, pipelayers, barges and yachts. The types of ship incidents that he has investigated include fires in cargo areas, engine rooms, accommodation and shipyards, as well as explosions. He has also given advice on live marine incidents and conducted investigations and given advice on cargo problems, cargo contamination and chemical hazards, including DRI, coal and bulk foodstuffs. He has undertaken investigations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Asia, the West Indies and South America.
He has lectured to various insurance organisations on incident investigation and has provided advice to counsel and presented expert testimony in court in the UK and overseas.
