Portia specialised in forensic chemistry while studying her Master’s degree in Forensic Science. She spent the following year working in a laboratory in Hong Kong, carrying out chemical tests on food, water, plastic and cosmetics samples. She joined Burgoynes in 2013 and specialises in the investigation of fires and explosions.

Portia principally investigates fires and explosions, which have included losses in vehicles, construction sites, residential and commercial premises, factories and warehouses. Those incidents involved electrical appliances, factory equipment and machinery, fixed electrical installations and chemicals. The investigations were conducted in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Macao, mainland China, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. Portia has also investigated marine incidents involving fires in ship’s accommodation areas and contamination in engine rooms.

Portia is fluent in Cantonese and speaks Mandarin.
