On 3rd March 2020, Matthew Suddards, a Partner at our Kenilworth office, gave a presentation concerning biomass-fuelled warm air heaters and boilers to claims handlers and underwriters at the NIG Farmweb Gloucester office.

Matthew provided an overview of the operating principles of batch-fed and continuous-feed appliances and the associated flue installations.  He presented the typical causes of fires that we encounter with these appliances including careless handling of ash, installation of the flues too close to combustible materials, and burn-back from the combustion chamber to the fuel store via the fuel conveyor system.  Matthew also discussed other aspects including blockages of fuel conveyor systems caused by unsuitable fuel, soot fires in the flue and fire suppression systems.
